In English it's usually called a "blind spot", but "dead angle" makes for
a good hint at the consequences of not checking it!

BTW, Vanagons have big blind spots, and the size and placement of the B
pillar makes them hard to check.  I highly recommend those stick-on convex
blind spot mirrors.
