Hello collective list wisdom,

Driving my '91 Syncro Westy tonight and while shifting from second to third
I felt a snap and suddenly the van seemed as if it was in neutral. I could
shift into gear and the clutch pedal had good pressure, but couldn't get the
transmission to engage. I don't know how else to describe it, just seems
like the van is in neutral regardless of what gear the shifter is in. What
gives?
