Dear List, I don't write much, but I am always here reading the list. I thought you might be interested in this little tale. All good news today. I met Adam a number of years back when I was buying Vanagons, fixing them a bit & reselling them. This kid with about 50 Lbs. of dreadlock (sp?) hair pulls into my driveway one day in his 84 GL, just about as excited about his bus as one can get. He ends up working for me on a part time basis. It was great to have someone young to crawl under & eat dirt & drink coolant. It gave me a chance to teach him a little about the mechanics of the beasts too. About 3 years ago he sent his bus up to Clarion PA to a combination VW bus graveyard & body shop and had all his dents fixed, weatherstrips replaced and a new paint job. I was skeptical, as I have sure seen a lot of poor body work over the years, but it came back looking pretty good. He stashed the bus in my warehouse pending earning enough money to get tires, an alignment, a few other necessities. Then came another Vanagon. Too good of a deal to pass up, it was soon Adams. I have been collecting rent along the way via yard work and such. Well, Adam has finally sold the 2nd bus & after 2 & 1/2 years was ready to pull the good bus out of storage. He was very nervous about what might have gone wrong with it during the down time. A new battery & about 4 cranks and that baby was purring. No collapsed lifter, no exhaust leak, no problems at all. We ran it down the hill & filled up with new gas and all is fine. This bus is really beautiful too. I picked up a new on last week too. An 85 GL, automatic, w/ air conditioning. You all know, the one Eric was carrying on about since the seller was looking for $50.00 or best offer. Well Eric, he took my $50.00 bill as fast as he could. Not a bad bus for the price. I think I might turn it into my work truck. Walt Spak Pittsburgh PA b20swalt@city-net.com
