Thanks, Eric.  Please keep the Syncro owners posted.

This seems to be an excellant idea.  Still, I have to wonder why VW didn't
use a slip yoke in the first place.  Although the transaxle and the front drive
are locked into position, there is still a fair amout of movement between the
two, especially once the mounts have some age on them.
