Subject:Re: New engine, but AT will not engage

Not really. It's fairly standard procedure to remove the automatic
transmission for rebuild whilst leaving the differential in the van. We do
it all the time. It can be a PITA to get everything lined up during
install, but it's no big deal.

Cheers,

Hi, sorry to hear that, BTDT. Did you lower and install the tranny and
differential as a unit? Is the linkage for the gear position installed
properly? It may be misadjusted. Depending on how the transmission was
reinstalled, it may have destroyed a few parts inside. It happened to me.
They have to be R&R as a unit, or else.

Prior to installing my rebuilt engine, my tranny worked fine. Now, that
it
is installed, my AT does nothing.not so much as a clunk. Now when i
worked
on the motor, I did take the torque converter off, it did leak some fluid
out. But i did reinstall and put the 3 bolts to hold it in place. It
spins
with the motor. I broke the motor in and bled the coolant in the
driveway,
adjusted valves, CO mix, etc., and then i was going to road test. But it
  would not go.
I checked fluid, seems OVER FILLED now. what gives? I added no
  fluid.........
