C'mon, someone must have a good engine kicking about, with the tons of conversions being done all around the country! Larry, if it comes down to really having no luck in finding one, I'll donate the use of the AVP-rebuilt block I have here, as long as you can cover shipping and find someone to install it. Or wait for me to be in Oregon in July! Karl Mullendore Westy Ventures '87 Syncro Westy 1.9TD '85 Westy -----Original Message----- Volks, Some days you rule the road and some days the road rules you. It pains me to say that today was the latter. Looks like my engine is trashed. A while back, after the failure of the third set of 2.2L pistons I reverted to stock 2.1L pistons. Unfortunately, because of a questionable head, the result was low compression in the number one cylinder. Then two days ago a significant amount of lifter noise started. Today ..... it sounds like she is going to tear herself apart at the seems. No power ... can't keep it running and need granny low to get over a speed bump. I need to find a really cheap engine and get it installed for next to nothing ..... or I'm sad to say, the Roadhaus Roadtrip may be over. Regrettably there just isn't enough cash left in the bucket to fund a proper new engine purchase and install. Fortunately I made it to a friend's place in Oregon (Susan Dolvin's Westfalia Acres). Will hang out here for a couple of days and try to figure out the next move. All suggestions and creative solutions welcome.
