Subject: Rotary engines

Anyone install an RX-7 engine in a vanagon? It seems like they would be
compact and powerful enough to do the job reliably.

Yea,but you gotta rev the buggery out of them to get going in a heavy
vehicle....they just don't have the torque down
low where you need it in a Transporter...

A friend of mine had a rotary in a '73 Double Cab years ago....lots of
slipping the clutch to get the thing happening
but it went like a scalded cat once it got going...I remember doing
130kph in 3rd before I shifted to 4th....
Useless for pulling a load however...
