Well, With the 2.1 Digifant WBX my Vanagon would average 19 mpg, the swapped to Volvo I4 2.1 liter with a crappy carburettor will average 21 - 23 mpg . That is with 15 % city traffic and the rest on bigger roads (60mph) And a 5speed manual gearbox...... Calle -88 VolvoVanagon Mullhyttan, Sweden ----- Original Message ----- John, I have to say, That is hard to believe. I had a 85 with a 1.9 that I personally rebuilt the engine all the way down to the crank with new fuel injectors to boot. It ran like a top! it did not do better than 17 mpg at any speed. Are you sure you are not running 60 series tires? If its truly doing what you say, Congratulations that is I believe somewhat unheard of in the vanagon community. Doug ----- Original Message ----- Hey all! I gotta brag about this. My 84 GL with 1.9l was rebuilt by Bob Birkholz (Grand Mesa Imports here in Delta, CO) 3 1/2 years ago. He rebuilt it with German bearings and sodium filled valves. I've got over 60k on the engine now and I use this baby for my daily commute. I drive 100 miles R/T daily on a 4 lane. My speed is 70-75 and my gas mileage is consistently 24-25 mpg in the summer and 22-23 in the winter. Last Sunday, I had to take my wife to Glenwood Springs to get some stuff and then commute to work Mon and Tues. My gas mileage was 25.99 mpg when I filled up Tues night.! Even I couldn't believe it! I thought my gas gauge was off... John
