Hi I am researching the where and what about an engine for my 1982 aircooled 2.0 Caravelle Bus, 4 gear, gasoline, carburettor version. It might be the easiest route to go - I did an engine inspection yesterday (visual) and I can see: * Pushrodtube seals gone * Valve cover gaskets gone * Head-gasket going in one side * Maybe leaking oil-pump. I know that all this about 20-50 hours or so to do - even with breaking a few bolts in the process and doing the odd hammering etc. And I want to do it. Definately!!!!!! (Let it be mine personal "mini-roadhaus") But as a part of my mental preparation, I am going over the possibilities ;-) Kick in with your 5 cents ;-) As I do not have access to a garage, it will be an "in the street" job.... :( My idea is to get the bus an axle stands, work on the engine, when night comes cover engine up in plastic or something, rear wheels back on, lower Bus from axlestands. I guess that I can get the work done in about 2-3 weeks of calendar-time, being well-prepared up front - so I am really scoping. And if everything goes wrong, well, I can allways get the bus towed to professional garage. Or skip from just doing gaskets to an entire engine-swap (I hate to loose face - then better just up-the-bets till it gets crazy.....) ( http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/8938/kimsgsa.html - dont let me near your VW ;-) ) Happy driving and dirty hands JJ
