bottom line is that lash should be set, or at least checked, hot; ideally with engine running to account for the details of hydraulic lifters, thermal expansion, hydraulic lifters, and so on. dan On Tue, 29 Jun 2004 10:09:17 -0400, ROBERT DONALDS <donalds1@VERIZON.NET> wrote: > >for the .006" to be taken up using solid lifters, however, that means, as > >the engine heats up, the crankcase, cylinder block and heads together > >expand less than the push rods alone, which is very unlikely. > > I cant be sure and don't really care that expands and how much I look at the bottom line. When the engine is warmed up the rockers looses it lash! The old 40 HP engine had two types of studs holding the rockers on the early head had a long stud that went much deeper than the rocker boss into the lower part of the head. The longer studs had to be adjusted to .008ths because they loose clearance as the engine warmed up. The newer heads with the short stud that screwed in the rocker boss where adjusted to .004ths because they gained clearance. This had nothing to do with the expantion of the push rods cylinders block and heads or did it > > going faster miles an hour with the radio on > I remain > > Bob Donalds > http://www.bostonengine.com > > All rights reserved
