I have a question about setting the timing on a 2.1L First off , which is the #1 cylinder? Is it the one nearest the front on the passenger side of the van? I've hooked up my timing light, disconnected the temp sensor II, but when I try to hold a 2200 rpm, the engine starts adjusting the rpms by itself making it hard to set the timing. Am I missing a step? I notice on the Vanagon dealer service tape they have the additional step of blocking the crankcase breather tube. Is this necessary? I can't seem to get the timing set because whenever I rev to 2200 rpm the engine tries to adjust the rpms. thanks, Todd '88 WEsty
