<blockquote type="cite" cite><font color="#0000FF">Just got back fro a
1700 mile round trip in the bus. The SVX ran flawlessly, and
averaged about 20mpg on the highway at 78mph. The weddle 5 speed
really showed its merits on this trip. I have nothing but great
things to say about it. My only question: Why in the hell
didn't VW give our beloved vanagons a setup like
this?</font></blockquote>
<div><br></div>
<div>That may be because at that time VW was bust taking the FUN out
of its vehicles... the Golf 1/Scirocco was the last fun
new-design VW (because it went so well and handled as if on
rails).</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>The last rear-engined Type 2 threatened to be fun (because it too
handled)... so VW pulled the plug by designing an unreliable botchup
of an engine, combined with a weak trans and bad electrics.</div>
