Yesterday I convinced myself that a clutch problem is brewing in my '85 Vanagon. The sound only occurs while the clutch pedal is pressed in so I'm guessing throwout bearing. My question is, are the steps to replace the clutch the same as with earlier VW applications? I hope not because I would hate to have to remove all those hoses and other crap and pull the engine if there's another way - like dropping the tranny instead.
