I thought the "official" design limit was 200Nm (150ish ft.lbs) of torque - could be an urban legend, but this the number I keep on hearing get tossed around in Germany by the people who install TDIs. I.e. the TDI is at the limit of the transmission. Upgrading the 4th gear to the aftermarket cogs and installing the ZA shaft oilier is supposed to increase that number by 'quite a bit'.
