I received a transmission from AATransaxle near Seattle and sent my old one back as a core. As I recall, there wasn't anything very spectacular about the box and packaging. It was a box slightly larger in all dimensions than the transmission, but I believe it was standard heavy-duty corrugated, not "double walled" (whatever that is.) The trans was empty - naturally - and wrapped in heavy plastic sheeting. It was "stabilized" with packing peanuts, pieces of foam, etc. In other words, stuff was just stuffed in such that the trans wouldn't be shifting once the box was closed. It was wrapped in standard packing tape. If I was going to do this from scratch I'd probably go down to my local bike store or appliance store and score a big box, then "make" a proper-sized box from that. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Young '81 Vanagon Lafayette, CA 94549 '82 Westfalia --------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "jdbs3@netzero.com" <jdbs3@NETZERO.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 9:54 AM Subject: Shipping a transmission cross country - looking for ideas > Any suggestions on the best way to package a transmission for shipping it by UPS cross country?
