Rob, Two methods I've used in the past: 1 - A small Easy-Out or similar bolt extractor 2 - A left hand drill (be carefull you don't damage the threads) Cheers, Jeff www.vanagonparts.com -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM]On Behalf Of Rob Sent: Wednesday, July 28, 2004 10:43 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: calliper bleed screws At 7/28/2004 10:08 AM, Andrew Gies wrote: >Has anyone had experience with the front calliper bleeder screws breaking >off when it came time to bleed the front brakes? > >Any tips on getting these things loose without breaking them? One of my >rear bleed screws snapped off this weekend - but I was replacing the >cylinders anyway. I soak them with pen fluid then put a wrench (6pt!) on that fits. Then with a small hammer (a big one is my 4lb) I tap tap tap. I keep on tapping until it comes loose or I get tired. If tired I soak it again., then take up the tapping. I have spend as long as 5 min tapping before I got tired. Note.... this is not a VW specific procedure Rob becidawa@hctc.com
