Hi alan Do not paint over the glue. what you want to do is use only 1 of 2 different products 1) only use if aerosol 3-M "90" use no other aerosol or it will react with the old adhesive and let go. 2) trim shop landau top adhesive. many makers of product i use K-Grip 406 in my shop. 3M makes it as does many private labels. it is deluted with laquar thinner and is very flammable. heed warning to clean it you can use laquar thinner. if it just rubs off use a wire brush on a drill motor. before applying any new cloth or headliner the area must be spotless or it can and will fall. you could also check with local trim shops and if you take the panel out and prep it to there liking they will probably not charge you much if you purchase the headliner material from them. good luck >we're restoring an '81 vanagon that's been sitting for years. > >The plastic sheeting that's glued onto the interior side panels (and >the 'ceiling' and inside the cupboards) has perished and so we're >pulling and scraping it all off, which leaves the side panels etc. >slightly sticky and gluey. > >What's the nicest / easiest / best way to deal with this? >Just paint over the glue? Wash the glue off with some >kind of solvent? Glue some more plastic on top of the >glue? (What kind of plastic & what kind of glue?) > >thanks for any ideas! >Alan
