i was misfortunate enough to have my van broken into while it was parked in san francisco last week. "fortunately" they took only stuff of sentimental value (lots of copied bootleg cd's of shows, my 35 year old slr camera, my notebook, etc) and not any of the couple thousand dollars worth of stereo equipment, or the van itself. also, they broke only the wing window to get in, which i easily replaced with a $25 used part from volks cafe. the problem is that the "new" window doesn't close properly and creates quite an annoying whistling sound above 35m/h. the upper rear edge of the window hits on the bar that seperates the wing window from the main square one in the door. by pushing in on that edge from the outside, the window can be made to shut, but it does not form a good seal. i'm assuming that the upper mounting hinge for the window was bent in the impact that broke the original. i spent quite a while with some hefty pliers trying to bend it outwards and towards the front of the car, but to no avail. has anyone delt with this issue before? any advice? i feel like all the stress i have put on that little metal piece has caused it to become looser; it seems to wiggle more than it did, so i'm skeptical of continuing to bend. it also dissapears quickly under the weatherstripping, so i have no idea how it is mounted to the door frame and if there is anyway to adjust it there. has anyone ever removed that hinge? can the weatherstripping around it be removed without damage? any other advice as to how to get my window to fit? Ben.
