You don't need a current meter, you can use a small 12 volt lamp bulb, such
as a dome light in line with the battery. When the light goes out you have
cleared the short.

Put a current meter in line with the battery.  Then start pulling
fuses.  This will isolate the circuit.  I have the same problem
but "no time to kiil" .   Let me know what you find.
