TJ, Thanks for the advice. I believe the 100/80W will need switching from 10A stock to 15A. I will be sure not to overload the wire. I am a EE by the way :-) - Vince http://gipsyflies.home.comcast.net <http://gipsyflies.home.comcast.net/> 1989 Vanagon GL Camper 1993 Mazda Miata 1996 Land Rover Discovery 2005 Mini Cooper S (almost here) <http://gipsyflies.home.comcast.net/> -----Original Message----- From: TJ Hannink [mailto:tjhannink@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 9:26 AM To: Vince S; vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Upgrade 89 Headlight to 100/80W Vince S <gipsyflies@COMCAST.NET> wrote: > I will add the relay and the change the fuse size for the increased > current. Don't overfuse a circuit!!! Fuses are placed in circuits to protect wiring, not components. They are sized based on the gauge of wire used in the circuit; the gauge of wire used in the circuit is based on the estimated current draw of the circuit when it was designed. If you chose to install a larger fuse, you also need to upgrade the wiring in a particular circuit or risk melting the wire insulation and starting a fire. My $.02, YMMV.
