Tim, Perhaps in the early 90s that may be true. Just bought a set of two 12 inch CCFLs today complete with the inverter for 14.95 You can buy them online for $9.99 (see my link below) Tested them in the garage this evening, very nice white light as nice in fact brighter than standard dc flourescents. Very low draw. claims 5 milliamps. I believe these are the best light technology for the lowest draw on the battery you can buy anywhere today. http://shop4.outpost.com/product/3813657#detailed Doug ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Schneider" <Tim.Schneider@SYNOPSYS.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 8:48 PM Subject: Re: Interior lighting for the vanagon LED and CCF > >I have been doing some lighting research and found out the LED > >technology only produces about 23 lumens per watt. > >Where the CCF produces in the 80 lumens per watt range. > > From what I recall.. we used some of these as backlights in > 'glass' cockpit avionics in the early 1990's (used to work for > Honeywell / Sperry Flight Systems) > > Expensive though.. > > -tim > > 90 syncro westy > mesa, az
