You can get brass or plastic fittings with smooth flanges or flanges
with gentle ribs. Just go to any big hardware store like Home Depot or
Lowes. I have one or two in my engine compartment. I also have copper pipe in my cooling system. Hole in rubber hose, cut out bad part, install 2 hose clamps and copper pipe - 10 years now and still holding fine.
