Following advice, I went to NAPA auto parts and found some Monroes for very cheap...like in the $20 range...and they improved my Van 100% (I had KYBs also) It no longer sways, wanders, jars the crap out of me or loses traction coming up my rough gravel road.... These were mounted about a year ago, 30k miles of hard loaded driving and I can feel no degradation of the ride or the handling. I like em. I could have spent $500 on some Konis, I guess...But I never found the Konis to be worth the money in their so called "sport" shock...and saving $400+ pays for a couple of fun trips.. I was pretty amazed to go to my local NAPA store and find the inexpensive shocks right on the shelf and have them work so well Don Hanson On Wed, Jul 4, 2012 at 12:46 PM, David M <covrambles@yahoo.com> wrote: > The suspension on my Vanagon is brutal. > It has KYB shocks, the adjustable kind. > They are about 15 years old but not that great a mileage. > Is there anything better that wont cost an arm and a leg? > > There is a road near me that has 4 or 5 'dips' to drain water from a field > to drains on the opposite side of the pavement. > My Mercedes sails over them with teutonic panache. > The Vanagon lurches over them with a jaw jarring bump and my head almost > hits the roof for each one. > > -David (1987 Wolfsburg GL, 1984 Mercedes 230e) >
