As for the planned Subaru conversion on my '85 Westy (The Anne Bonney), it is getting closer to becoming a reality.  Picked up an engine from a '94 Subie this weekend in Albuquerque.  Asked the guy not to cut any wires, so he cut the entire dashboard out and gave it to me - stereo and all.  It is now sitting in the yard in Oklahoma next to the bus.  Soon . . .
