Very interesting. For the US Market (as original): 80-85 Vanagon: 111 937 505 M Fuse box, uses old style, porcelain fuses 86-91 2wd Vanagon: 171 937 821 D Fuse box/Relay plate, uses new style "ATC/ATO" flat fuses 86-91 Syncro Vanagon: 111 937 505 M Fuse box, uses old style, porcelain fuses 81-82 Diesel Vanagon: 281 937 505 A Fuse box, uses old style, porcelain fuses 83-on Diesel Vanagon: 111 937 505 M Fuse box, uses old style, porcelain fuses The 111 937 505 M Fuse box also fits 73-77 Standard Beetles & K Ghias, getting hard to find and pricey. The 171 937 821 D Fuse box/Relay plate also fits 83 Rabbit Cabrio, 84-93 Cabrio, Late 89 Golf, 83-87 Jetta, 88 German Jetta, 89 Mexican Jetta, 83-88 Scirocco & 83-88 Quantum (including Syncro). These aren't easy to find either and a bit pricey as well. Wonder why they didn't put the "modern" Fuse box in the Syncro? Tom are you sure you have an 85? Maybe it's an early 86 registered as an 85. Or it could be a Europe purchased privately brought over? Inquiring minds and all...................
