Eric, yepper, i'm aware. swapped the input shafts and 'felt' tht went
well.
though was my 1st time inside a tranny. but was fairly straightforward.
so shouldn't be that..
an AC input shaft on a diesel BH would prevent the engine+ tranny from
fitting together, consequently creating a lot of extra space for the
clutch mechanism, but also creating a noticable gap between the motor
and tranny??
i'm still stumped, but will be out there under it again after work, I'm
thinking is there any way I mighta messed up the throw-out bearing
install? it does 'engage' with out whining or chatter. just acts like a
grossly maladjusted clutch cable..
come to think of it I couldn't find any clutch cable.. maybe thats
what I left out ;-)

Did you / are you aware of the input shaft problem being
different length for the boxer motor vs the inline 4 cyl.
I have a different setup, so my situation may not apply,
but I can tell you the input shaft from diesel to boxer
is different in length. Could cause this problem.
