Most likely, testing will be for current models going forward.  Pre-law
vehicles will be exempt.  Additionally, there's quite a bit of resistance
due to the higher cost of the diesel testing equipment.

Don't bet on it. Diesel Smog checks are coming soon. You should have
seen them putting my 39' Diesel motor home on the Dyno here on Long
Island. Test includes particulates, NOx, and HC.

That's why a TDI conversion is ideal for Cah-lee-for-nee-ah.  Once it's
registered as a diesel, no more smog checks... ever!

The stchick is... the great rolling law that exempts vehicles over 30YO

emissions test is gone. Any vehicle after 1976 will never have this
dispensation. All vehicles that are exempt now from the testing will
stay
that way. My 84... never have a chance. I see a couple more years, then
it's
time to do a Soobie conversion as emissions and fuel system parts for
the 84
