Subject:Re: re-torque-ing heads to stop coolant leak
From:Pascal Giasson

I have searched the archives for information on how to retorque the heads
with no luck. My '84 westy is not leaking and the PO said that the heads
had been retorqued by the VW dealer as part of a VW program to prevent the
heads from leaking. Is this something that I should re-check (the head nut
torque) or does this just need to be done once? Thanks

heads (drips on both sides) since acquisition, expected to need to redo
heads at some point in not-distant future. Vehicle came to me with a
complete spare engine that includes newly reman'd heads, so I was not
dreading the eventual need.

for other stuff, when I picked it up he said "Your heads were leaking
coolant like sieves! I retorqued them and now they don't leak." That was
about 9 months ago. Still no leaks!
