There is just too much stuff in a 20 year old tank that can start raising havoc with the very fine tolerances of the fuel pumps. The strange part is that I have seen many more fuel pump failures in the later vanagaon than in the earlier. This may be because I have seen more of the later though. I have seen more supposed early vanagon fuel pump failures cured when I changed the fuel filter. With my tank still probably having some contamination in it I carry two filters and listen for the sound of a straining fuel pump. But it has been over 6 months so I think I am back on a fairly clean tank again. jimt Planned insanity is best.
