Indeed they did. I was offered an Oettinger-powered Syncro in England
(for a ridiculous price) with 3-channel ABS. It was an 86 or so, if I
remember... chrome bumpers & round headlights.

Of course earlier ABS systems are worse than useless on gravel or dirt...
