All this is totally coincidental.
The heater will not affect the ECU, unless of course it is leaking and
blowing coolant right on the control unit.
But as you didn't mention that happening, I don't think this is an
issue.
Why did the Van stop running?
Difficult call, but I am positive it had nothing to do with the rear
heater.
