"And when furry things run in front of you, don't risk life, limb, and equipment by going into the ditch or worse. When it comes to quick maneuvers the Vanagon is just to damn big and heavy." I've had two opportunities to test my committment to this philosophy and so far passed. I've had just enough time to apply brakes a little to create more space, but that's it, no turnig away. That impulse is there but I haven't done it yet. As many of you've said, traveling at night expands the envelope of opportunity alot. I do that most when leaving on trips, as the one to Moab this Wed. night. Deer and their relatives travel in groups and I never know if I'm seeing the first, last, or one in the middle so I do what I can to stop .... and travel much more slowly than I would in daylight.
