Some thick insulation under the carpets makes a big difference ! But dont forget the battery/lugage area under the front seats, you have just a thin metal between the chair and the wheels ! You could also glue something to the inside of the front, really thin soundproofing there which you could hear when hitting a bug ( an insect, not the car !!) or a bumblebee I was driving without the cover for the Eberspracher heater for a while and that also made a big difference, seems like the crossbeams make a lot of turbulence so adding a couple of "skidplates" underneath might be a good idea if you dont have it Calle ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug in Calif" <vanagon@ASTOUND.NET> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 9:20 PM Subject: Re: noise reduction > Good point to all. > I am sure it does make a difference or vw designers would not have opted > to > go to the cost. > It is not the end all for noise. > I agree with Robert that the area under the front of the van is the more > likely place for most road noise to get in. > As I mentioned earlier, I noticed a difference with the change to the full > front rubber floor mat vs. the factory insulation and carpet. > > Doug > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Robert Cardo" <rrecardo@WEBTV.NET> > To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 8:39 AM > Subject: Re: noise reduction > > >> This is a witch hunt for interior serinity. >> If you folks think that just by installing the front door seal from a >> late model Vanagon is going to do it, you in for a big suprise. >> I can see a bunch of unhappy camper's out there dropping their doors, >> pop riviting, or drilling and screwing the channles to accept this seal, >> ony to find they have the same noise levels thay had before. >> I have them in my 90 Carat and it took a bunch more even with the seals >> to quiet the Van down to an acceptable level. >> This is not the one and only solution to ths issue ( in a matter of fact >> I don't think it will reduce the road noise problem at all, seeing as >> road noise comes from the bottom of the Van as I discovered, and almost >> totally eliminated ) >> Be real careful taking the doors off you Van--they are a pain to >> realign. >> >> RC >
