Subject:What's the definitive word on tires??
From:Richard Golen

Hi All,

Ok, I know this is an on-going thread...I've looked up the archives and at
the tire list on vanagon.com..but can't come up with answers. The tire list
on vanagon.com is woefully out of date, and it seems much of the discussion
over the past few months centers around 185x14 tires..

Here's my dilema...need to put a set of tires on my 87 Westy (heading to
the Keys right after Christmas). Currently I have Michelin MXTs 205-70/14s
w/43k miles and a decent amount of tread is left....however the sidewalls
are cracked.

MXTs are no longer available, and it seems nor are any sort of 205/70 14s
w/reinforced sidewalls.

I really don't think I want to do 185x14s as they seem to be a
smaller/narrower tire...I want a reinforced tire that also handles well on
a Westy...the MXTs fit the bill perfectly, but alas, they are no longer
available..

What is the definitive word on tires, fellow listees???

Thanks.

Ric
