When replacing the heads on a 2.1 liter, should you always remove the
pistons and cylinders just to replace the lower seal?

I've had the heads off of 3 different 1.9 engines and I've only replaced the
lower O-ring on one cylinder that I couldn't free from the head until after
I removed it from the van.  I haven't had any problems with leakage on any
of the three.  I still own 2 of them.  One was done 3 years ago, and the
other was done 2 years ago.

I've never heard of anyone having problems doing it this way ... but surely,
someday, some unlucky soul will make such a report.
