I gave up on renting trailers from U-Haul earlier this year.  Too much
hassle.  Went out and bought a nice tandem axle car hauler rated at 7,000
lbs.  The only down side has been the amount of space it takes on the lot.

Uhaul trailer.  Everything went fine.  In fact I've
towed so many Vanagons with this setup, I have a Uhaul
gold card. I've toyed with having an Expedition with a
Uhaul trailer follow me wherever I go.
