no need to "smash"  anything.   you can remove the windshield seal from the
inside, starting at a corner and working your way across.  if your windshield
is cracked already, "break" (not literally of course!) the bead from inside w/
a big flathead, and then use your feet to push windshield out working your way
around the perimeter.
and actually new rubber isnt too bad, i got a german seal from ron for under
50 i believe.
