No. You only pay for the connected load, i.e.,the electricity you are
using. When the batteries reach a charged state and  no other loads are
drawing current, the torque requirements will be mostly diminished.
Certainly there will be differences in peripheral loads, such as a
larger cooling fan, or different bearings, but at no load, one
alternator shouldn't take much more power than another. You will notice
Jim said the alternators on test stands ONLY stalled the motors when
full load was applied!
