there's an ad on ebay for an 87 Vanagon Syncro. and the seller goes on
and on about this and that, and then says ... and i quote ...

"This GL Vanagon 4x4, was made in West Germany and assembled in
Austrailia. These are very rare, very sought after and very hard to
find. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Michael at
..."

gee. i knew they were SOLD in Australia ... just never knew they were
assembled there.  i always thought they were assembled in AUSTRIA.
