That V shaped piece of metal isn't to support the Dash....It's to
support the RADIO. And that is the "reason" that places like
Crutchfield recommend so little for the Vanagon (as it only allows for
something about 5 inches deep). If you bend it out of the way, you can
stick 7 1/2 inch deep DIN radios in the dash.
