Ron and Peter at TIICO both sell the vanagon pukka fair dinkum genuine VAG approved hitch. This uses a fairly long insert into the 'frame' channels and secures with three bolts per side. A manly rack, worthy purchase. My idea is to use the rack as a basis for a custom bumper. My weldermagician welded a standard 2" receiver onto the manly hitch. Seems to work well. I suspect 220lbs of tongue on that would be pretty ok since this afternoon a neighbor and I put in a 2" beam and stood on it with no adverse effects either on the manly hitch or the dufi on the beam. This is not an endorsement or an invitation for YOU to try this. However do not impede evolution, get rid of all the warnings.
