I replaced mine per the recommendations/shocks sold by Go Westy awhile back.
They recommend that you buy 1 "stiffie" & 1 less stiffie so that they
continue to hold the hatch up , but not make it too hard to close.  Seems to
work well.  I think they were about $22  each +-.
