Edward, my mistake, I was assuming you were looking at putting this in your
vanagon.  Our family has put on over 700 000km combined on a rabbit and
then golf diesel.  The rabbit 1.5l and the golf 1.6.  Both were bulletproof
as far as the engine goes.  They were both manuals so no help on the auto,
but you'd have to assume taller ratios than the vanagon AT.
