Subject:Compression test - cold vs hot?
From:Shawn Wright

As an experiment, I did a compression test on my '88 2.1L from dead cold
tonight; engine has not been started since November. Readings were as
follows: 135-135-90-125. The 90 surprised me, as the engine starts and
runs very well.
So I then put the plugs back in, started it, and ran for about 2-3 minutes to
warm the oil. I then re-checked the two low cylinders (right hand bank) and
got: 130-155. Is it typical to see a wide spread between cold and warm/hot
readings? What possible causes are there for this? Lifter bleed down?
(they didn't make any noise at all, even after sitting for months, thanks to
Amsoil synthetic!). The engine wasn't even hot on the 2nd reading, just
warm.

Just curious...

ps: This is the engine I will be selling in a month or so, once I get my diesel
conversion parts lined up. If you are interested, and want to drive it before I
pull it out, please contact me for details. (near Victoria, BC.)

Thanks
Shawn Wright
