But Rapid City, SD, is a good place to stop if he's worried about breaking down, good VW repairs available there! Rocky, at European Motor Works (I think that's what they're called - see Larry's website).

Just past Rapid City, stay in the free "primitive" campground in the Badlands, it's lovely! And driving on 90 heading east from the Badlands, look on your left for the amazing life-sized (or bigger?) iron sculpture of a man leading a dinosaur skeleton on a leash. (See http://users.rcn.com/oldcat/Dinosaur2.gif.)

:::Mark,
:::

:::John,
:::
:::My vote is "go for it".

:::Remember that you'll have to divide the kids up in front and back seats

:::
:::Show the kids Yellowstone (if it's not tourist season yet), Badlands,
:::and Mount Rushmore. Eat at Bobak's in Chicago. Visit Niagara Falls and
:::walk around Toronto. Your kids will get a priceless geography lesson.
