Another option is LPG - propane.  Where I live gasoline is $0.85/liter,
diesel $0.80/liter and propane $0.45/liter
Propane is also generally cleaner than vanagon digifant.  I'd say there is
more power with propane than a 1.9TD.

It all depends on what the price of propane is where you live.  The
conversion can be done cheaply, if you do it yourself.
