i normally check all sensor functions then test all wiring.  its a long
process but generally catches everything but very intermittent problems.
it also costs money so most people won't pay you to do it until they have
been to all the other people that can't or won't figure it out.  the last
temp II sensor that i fixed had a bad connector and wiring, and for the
most part that was the problem.
