Subject:Re: 83 temperature gauge goes berserk

This could be the coolant level sensor. The main coolant tank has a
sensor to warn you if the coolant level is getting low. The early models
such as yours came with a coolant level relay that pegs the gauge and
blinks the red light whenever it thinks the coolant is low. Often just
unplugging the wires to the sensor and reconnecting them will clear up
the flashing

>Help. The temp gauge on my 83 Westy has a mind of it's own. All of a sudden the red light will start blinking, the needle goes way up. Sometimes it stays there for 10 or 15 minutes, sometimes it just comes back down after 2 or 3 minutes. The sensors have been replaced, and it is not actually running hot at all. I know it is not running hot, but everytime it happens, my heart starts to pound a bit. I hate to ignore the gauge, any ideas on what the problem could be?? Thanks.
