Congrats Robert. I had to drill out two studs on a Beetle engine recently. One was not to bad, but the second one turned out to be a bear. I snapped off an easy-out and then my new sharp drill bit did not stay sharp for long. The easy-out is made out of very hard, but unfortunately brittle, material. Glad it worked out. Warren Lail 88 Westy "Billy Bones" >>>>Well thanks everyone for the ideas. This is how I did it. A Dremel tool with a tungsten carbide cutter . I slowly hollowed out the old studs then I drilled them with a helper to get it as square as possible. Tapped them and installed heli coils. The new exhaust system went on without incident. Enjoyed a couple of very cold beers afterwards. Not an easy job. Robert<<<<<<<<<<<
