Daniel is back on the road.  Thanks for everyones input.

He had the Westy towed to a local garage.

The airbox was removed to help "air out" the intake system.

They put it inside the shop for a few hours to warm it up (it was
near freezing the last couple of days).  Charged up the battery
because it was low from trying to start so many times.

Got the van started and started travelling east.  Running a little
funky but driveable.  Hopefully it will stay happy until he gets to
lower elevations.

I guess the Westy misses San Francisco's moderate temperatures and
sea level air pressure....
